PANCREATIC DISEASES


  1. Pancreatic cancer, is an uncontrolled growth of the pancreatic cells which starts in the exocrine portion.

  2. The term periampullary cancer includes cancer occurring around the ampulla of Vater.

  3. Various solid and cystic lesion can occur in pancreas, can be both benign and cancerous.

  4. These tumours arise from the enterochromaffin cells in the intestine. These cells have traits of both nerve cells and hormone-making endocrine cells.

  5. Acute pancreatitis is inflammation of pancreas over a short period of time and is a serious health condition.

  6. Chronic pancreatitis is persistent and recurrent inflammation of the pancreas leading to permanent damage.

    SURGICAL PROCEDURES

  7. Whipple procedure is done to remove tumours in the head of the pancreas.

  8. It is a surgical procedure to resect tumours and cysts in the body and tail of pancreas.
